Alberta historical wildfire incidence data are available through Forestry Division for the convenience of, and personal
use by, government staff, resource users and the public.
Five different sets of data are available:
Older data (prior to 1995) will typically only list Class E wildfires, defined as wildfires that reach a size greater than
200 hectares (494 acres).
Prior to 2001, the fire year ran from January to December. As of April 2002, the fire year is defined as April 1 to March
31 of the following year (e.g., fire year 2008 runs from April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2009).
