Wildfire Weather Data

Fire Weather data has been collected daily in Alberta for a few decades and since the late 1960s at some locations.

Currently, data from 1976 to the present are available. However, only the data from 1984 to present include fire danger indices. Presently, the Fire Weather Section is manually entering data from before 1976 into the database. We are also planning to recalculate the fire danger indices as time allows.

The AM data format: (8 AM)

  • Date
  • Dew Point Temperature (DPT)
  • Maximum Temperature
  • Minimum Temperature
  • Overnight Precipitation (18 hour)
  • Present Temperature

  • Wind Direction and Speed

The PM data format: (1 PM)

  • Buildup Index (BUI)
  • Date
  • Dew Point Temperature (DPT)
  • Drought Code (DC)
  • Duff Moisture Code (DMC)
  • Fine Fuel Moisture Code (FFMC)
  • Fire Weather Index (FWI)
  • Initial Spread Index (ISI)
  • Precipitation (6 hour for Lookout Towers and Automatic Stations and 24 hour otherwise)
  • Present Temperature
  • Relative Humidity (RH)
  • Station Name
  • Wind Direction and Speed
